Exhibition, Bilder auf Wanderschaft: Das Warburg Institute und eine britische Kunstgeschichte at the Zentral Institute, Munich

30 May – 21 June 2019, Exhibition – Bilder auf Wanderschaft. Das Warburg Institute und eine britische Kunstgeschichte, Zentralinstitut, Munich.

This was an exhibition of archive materials from The Warburg Institut that explored the exhibition, English Art and the Mediterranean and the publication British Art and the Mediterranean.  It was held in Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte, Munich, 30/5 – 21/6/2019, Germany’s most important art history research institute and library.  The Institute’s building was formerly where the Nazi party’s membership files were kept. After the war it became the Collection Point for the Allies that repatriated looted art works.  The history of the site thus resonated with the contextual background of British Art and the Mediterranean and the Warburg Institue’s migration to London.  The publication, Image Journeys: The Warburg Institute and A British Art History also acts a catalogue for the exhibition exploring it’s context and material.
